i've used the original version of this paper for a long time.
it was great: glossy, bright white and produced clean sharp images.
this new version is no good at all. paper is yellowish, rough, satin finish, produces dull, washed out images.
i have no idea what paper to suggest as a replacement to the original Q1987A, but this sure isn't it!!!!!
Like others here, I've been using this product (or, I should say, this
product number) for years. It provided very good handling of photos and
text for a relatively lightweight, 2 sided paper. Yes, there was some
variability in print density from one batch to the next, but it was
easily dealt with.
I just bought a new package, same SKU as
before (Q1987A, made in Germany) but the product inside is completely
different! A distinctly yellow white vs. the previous brilliant white
and a sort of stippled "gloss" surface -- really more satin than gloss.
Also, the ink pickup is a LOT lighter than before, requiring that I
crank up the density adjustment on my computer to the max just to get
decent-looking text.
This new product is not acceptable.
Out
of desperation, I tried some Office Depot private label gloss brochure
paper. After some fiddling with the print profile, it printed much
better than the "new" HP - - actually pretty close to the old HP.
Traditionally,
HP has been the gold standard for inkjet papers. (Their Premium Plus
Photo is certainly my favorite in that department.) This disaster with
the brochure paper is just bizarre. I'd love to hear their explanation.
I have used HP brochure/flyer paper for about ten years and I just ran
out. I bought what is supposed to be the same product, same number ,
weight, brightness etc and IT IS HALF AS GLOSSY AS BEFORE and not at
all the quality of the previous great product. I will have to see if
any other company has brochure paper since I will not buy HP again!
I hesitated before ordering this because I read the reviews. It seems
there are some who think what they received is not equal (quality wise)
to what they've received in the past. I've never had brochure paper
before, so I had nothing to compare it to. However, I was making small
booklets where I wanted double sided photo paper. After a few Googles, I
realized I should search for 'brochure' paper. Since I was on a
deadline, even after reading the reviews, I ordered this paper. I'm
glad I did. It was perfect for my project & I just ordered another
box.
I like the paper itself, but was surprised that the box had come without
any shrink wrap and was already open. I don't even know it it was a
full box, as I was not about to count every single sheet. And I was
just to lazy to go through the process of returning it and risk getting
another one in the same condition. All I can say is, I won't be
ordering from this vendor again on Amazon.
I've used this inkjet brochure paper before and liked it, but I got
scared by the bad reviews here. So I thought I would try the HP LASER
brochure instead. Big mistake! After testing every single setting on my
Canon photo printer i9900, the photos looked dull, like they had a white
film over them. And this printer prints beautifully on Canon, Epson,
and Adorama paper, as well as other HP papers. But HP is much more
affordable, so I use it for longer print jobs. I went out and got the HP
inkjet brochure paper, and now everything looks bright, sharp &
vibrant, like it should. Even the black text is so much darker and
richer. I don't have any of my older work to compare this with, but I'm
very happy with the quality.
With this paper even the smallest business can produce professional
quality brochures in very small batches. Printing your own marketing
materials means you don't have to print 1000's and you can customize
them at will. The glossy surface makes the resulting brochure look like
something produced by a professional printer.
I used the sheets for CD inserts which came out great using HP color printer.
The end result - nice looking insert with, high end look at low cost. For my purpose, creating marketing mailers, it allowed for a decent
interpretation of the look I was going for. It is the perfect weight
but I did not have as great, crisp definition as I did on HP's Color
Inkjet printer paper. The color inkjet printer paper produced refined
reproductions of the artwork while the Brochure Paper was a bit
blurrier, almost shapeless as the white in the design melted away into
the paper. This did not occur in the Color printer paper which I paid
about five bucks for at Target. So, it is definitely flawed. I have
the HP Photosmart Premium Web which is made for professional looking
graphics and color printing. I know it isn't the printer as it produces
flawless work. And I don't have the previous brochure paper to compare
it to as the other reviewers. But disappointed all the same. Will try
the Premium Plus paper series in hopes that it does a better job.
